I remember in early 2000 we had a fileserver buckle badly because of the total diskspace available to the machine there was only 245kb free space left ( we didn't use quota's & file screening software back then ) Off course we use that in order to keep our system clean from any hazardous material and material that could trigger legal actions if found on our network ( illegal software, p*rn and other things nfsw ) And whatever they store locally on their machines is done at their own risk and they should not complain if that data is being lost.įor a certain limited amount of users ( read senior management & some developpers ) we also provide backups from the local folders on their laptopįile screening you say. Users are informed that whatever they want to keep but which is not mission critical can be stored in the "archive" share linked to their homedrive. Personal drives get a quota from 1Gb in the active folder & 5Gb on a less critical server. Off course we use disk quota's or else the users would consider the fileserver their personal youtube backup folder
